IC-7100 MARS/CAP Modification

IC-7100 MARS/CAP Modification

Remove the following diodes to open the referenced frequency ranges.

In the IC- 7100 the radio frequency range can be opened in various configurations. The chart below describes four radio frequency range configurations and the specific diode(s) that enable that configuration. Select only one of the four configurations.

Note Frequency range and specifications cannot be guaranteed after modification

ICOM IC-7100 Why Should I buy

I have an IC-7100. All of those 45 aurora contacts made on 17 March were made using it.

I am asked would I recommend it. Well, yes, if you know what you are letting yourself in for.

Plus features are many - small size of the control unit, nifty touch screen controls, reasonable price, RF DSP, 4m for Europe, good frequency stability for data modes, USB lead to PC allowing direct audio in/out for data, DStar, coverage up to 70cms, ....

The snags I have experienced and my solutions are - low output powers on SSB (needs separate microphone with compressor), "clicking noise" (not a big thing, I am ignoring it), RF getting back into the control cable (use a short screened ethernet cable CAT6 or higher), deep cut on AGC a problem with QRN (electric fence problem in my case, turn AGC off).

ICOM 7100 reveiw

Belive it or not the 7000 , 7100, and 7300 are all the same rigs , just with some tweaking and the addition of a crappie monochrome display ( why did they think we wanted that ?) And dstar ( for a lot of places the only way to do dstar is an additional 400+ dollars for dongles) then they put in a desk based body with color screen and waterfall.

I have a 7000 love the thing to death nice color screen with all the most used buttons immediately on either side of the display, it very covent and intuitive , they really made a mess of a great rig when they did the 7100.

I have known a lot of pigs and lipstick doesn't help, same deal with the 51a and 5100a cheap monochrome display that is gray on gray they don't have the contrast ability to make the text black with a grey background and what kind of a bone head move the 5100a was with a 600 buck rig that everything you need like Radio Mounts and such is an expensive option, back on the rig your thinking of I would actually say save your bucks.

[Icom_IC-7100] IC7100 DV Audio

On my first attempt to operate in the DV mode, I connected through the local access repeater to a gateway repeater and was informed by a couple of hams that my audio was very loud and distorted. I backed off the mic a bit and reset the TX DV treble and bass settings to zero. The report was not much better. Anyone else experience this in the DV mode? I ran some tests on the FM audio using a monitor radio and it was fine in FM mode so can't tell what the situation may be.

[icom7100] linking to D-Star reflector

instruction manual is huge, but...

1. Press the DR button and scroll to find your local repeater.

2.  Press the TO entry on the touchscreen.  Press "Your Call Sign".  Press the up or down arrows to select "Unlink Repeater" to cancel any existing link.  Press the PTT switch on your microphone to execute this.

3.  Press the up or down arrows to chooset a reflector and press the entry select it  Press the PTT.  You will get a voice confirmation.

4,  Again press the TO entry and choose "Use Repeater" and press PTT.  You can now communicate with the reflector..

5.  To unlink, repeat step 2.

Note that you can also access the repeater status and echo test functions from the "Your Call Sign" screens.

[Icom IC-7100] Low power output on ssb

I think we are all screwed, I do not think Icom is going to do anything about the low power out put on SSB problem.
Do not hold your breath.
You have what you have and you better like it .
I did the mic upgrade and yes it sounds a little better but the Power on SSB problem is still there.
So what can I do ? I guess ill live with it Until someone finds a MOD that takes care of this problem.
I do not think there will be a software fix for this unless the ALC has been compony set at an improper level.
And ICOM is trying to govern the output power levels. So I ask if any one has a fix for this please let me know I like the IC-7100 but I feel that I put my money into the ICOM technology too soon and Im just a ICOM guinea pig.I tell you on my next purchase I will truly do my homework based on real world word of mouth and join a blog group before I make my buy not after like I just did. Fool me once shame on you ICOM shame on me fool me twice shame on me.
Shame on you ICOM.....

Icom IC-7100 expanded frequency mod

I am looking at the document Icom produced for what they call the 'expanded frequency mod'. This is the mod concerning diodes D6315, D6316 and D6310. If removing diode D6316 it lists these as opening the 'desired frequency band':

1.6-54MHz

68-74.7999MHz

118-174MHz

400-470MHz

IC-7100 Firmware Update (E4) and CS-7100

IC-7100 Firmware Update (E4) and CS-7100 Cloning Software Update (Ver. 1.10)

Icom have released firmware and cloning software upgrades for the IC-7100 HF/VHF/UHF Amateur Radio transceiver. The new updates provide CI-V commands for antenna control, logging software and RIT for this model.
Release E4 of the IC-7100 firmware and Ver. 1.10 of the CS-7100 cloning software can be downloaded from the following URL from the Icom Inc website:
www.icom.co.jp/world/support/download/firm
Before you install the firmware, download and read carefully the installation guide using the link on the firmware update page.
IC-7100’s improvements
CI-V commands for antenna control, logging software and RIT.
Important Information
Refer to IC-7100 Firmware update information— Release E4 for details.
• To install the added features on Release E4 using the cloning software, use CS-7100 Revision 1.10.
• A mini-B type USB cable is required.
• You must install the USB driver before connecting the USB cable between the IC-7100 and the PC.
• Thoroughly read "Firmware update instructions" to know what the update requires.
• Save the transceiver’s data onto an SD card or to your PC using the CS-7100 cloning software. It is possible that your data could get lost during the update.
• Never turn OFF the transceiver power or disconnect the USB cable during the update.
• You must update both the controller (front panel) and the transceiver at the same time.
• The following firmware has been updated:
• CPU M to Version 1.10
• CPU C to Version 1.10

icom7100 PSK31

Have searched the web and youtube and have found one video but it is in russian, I am using Fldigi, receiving ok but can not key the 7100.
Anyone else using psk31 with usb cable from ICOM 7100

I was the same , and wanted to set up the IC- 7100 with HAMRADIO DELUXE, until I found the right settings

Review this page:   http://www.romeo12.de/ index.php?option=com_content& view=article&id=195:icom-ic- 7100-und-ham-radio-deluxe- inbetriebnahme&catid=51: testberichte-mobilgeraete& Itemid=148

Make sure you have the right drivers first.
Then check to make sure your connectors are set properly for USB data.
These are the most common issues.  I can send you a screenshot of FLDIGI on my mac that works.
